DataFleX – Utilising interoperable data ecosystems to tap into decentralised energy flexibility

The Challenge

The secure management of energy networks in Germany is becoming increasingly complex due to the integration of renewable energy generation facilities and additional consumers associated with the mobility and heating transitions. Furthermore, the information required for planning is becoming increasingly dispersed, making it more difficult to gather. The data formats and models used, as well as the method of access and retrieval, often vary depending on the source, adding further complexity. Similarly, other sectors, such as manufacturing or transport, require information from the energy sector in order to plan more effectively themselves. Connecting these data sinks often requires individual configuration.

Our Approach

As part of this project, we aim to establish semantic interoperability between data ecosystems, thereby simplifying the integration of data sources and facilitating cross-sectoral data exchange.

The interoperability of data ecosystems will then be demonstrated using a use case for the utilisation of energy flexibility in grids and a use case for the transmission of information for use in the Product Carbon Footprint. For the first use case, models and methods will be developed, on the one hand, to aggregate flexibility from decentralised sources and then offer it to consumers, and, on the other hand, to redistribute the resulting schedules back to the sources.

Our Objective

The Dataflex project aims to drive forward the digital interconnection of the energy, heating and transport sectors. The aim is to harness the potential of decentralised flexibility, improve the stability of the electricity grid and reduce energy costs.

To this end, existing data ecosystems are being digitally interconnected across sectors.
