Continuing education to become an ‘Energy Data Analyst’

This seminar provides an overview of the latest methods and applications of time series analysis and forecasting in the energy sector. Participants will gain practical experience in selected methods through exercises carried out using specialist software. Participants will be able to continue applying the skills they have learnt even after the seminar has ended.

The aim is not only to impart theoretical knowledge, but also to encourage the practical application of these methods.

This seminar will enable you, as an Energy Data Analyst, to improve your forecasting skills and apply the knowledge and understanding you have gained within your organisation.

CONTENT AND EXPIRATION

Are you interested in forecasting energy-related processes? Would you like to learn which analytical methods you can use to extract the necessary information from your data? Then the “Energy Data Analyst” training course is just the thing for you!

In this training course, you will learn:

  • Fundamentals of the Energy Industry with a Focus on Forecasting
You will gain an overview of the energy market and the applications of forecasting in the energy sector, and learn about the role forecasting plays in the energy industry’s planning process.

  • Fundamentals of Modelling
You will learn the principles of modelling and acquire the key steps involved in creating a forecasting model.

  • Time series analysis
You will learn how to use various data analysis methods to identify the characteristic properties of time series and the external factors affecting them. You will understand how to use this information to determine the correct settings for your forecasting model.

  • Time series pre-processing
You will recognise the importance of structured data preparation in the development of forecasting models and learn about various methods of time series pre-processing.

  • Forecasting methods
You will gain an overview of the current state of the art in the field of time series forecasting. You will learn which forecasting methods are particularly relevant in practice within the energy sector, for example for load and generation forecasts.

  • Evaluating forecasts
You will learn how to assess the quality of a forecast and which evaluation methods and quality measures are most suitable depending on the specific application.

  • Forecasting tools
You will learn how the automated use of forecasts is implemented in practice using commercial tools, and what functionalities are required for this.

The training course is designed to be interactive and includes a significant number of practical exercises in which participants can directly apply what they have learnt using a software tool. The tool was developed at Fraunhofer IOSB-AST and remains available to participants for a limited period after the course so that they can carry out their own analyses and forecasts.

You’ll benefit from the experience and feedback of qualified lecturers, as well as from interacting with other participants. Register now to secure your place!

"Being able to forecast the future more accurately is of paramount economic importance, particularly for companies in the energy sector and, increasingly, for energy-intensive industries. With more accurate forecasts, available resources can be planned more efficiently and utilised more economically. Consequently, sound data analysis and the forecasting based on it are playing an increasingly important role. Drawing on the latest scientific research, this seminar provides training in analysis and forecasting methods, as well as their evaluation, using industry-relevant applications."

The Applied Systems Engineering (AST) division of Fraunhofer IOSB in Ilmenau possesses extensive expertise in the fields of forecasting and data analysis. Our many years of experience in the development and implementation of system solutions for sustainable, efficient and environmentally friendly energy supply will be actively incorporated into the seminar.

We look forward to welcoming you to our seminar."

Yours sincerely, Prof. Thomas Rauschenbach
Director of Fraunhofer IOSB-AST
