Neighbourhood energy management

The energy transition requires closer integration of the electricity, heating and transport sectors – both within individual homes and across residential neighbourhoods. To achieve this, new concepts, tools and business models need to be developed. 

As part of the “Open District Hub” (ODH) association, we are working on solutions that enable economically and environmentally sustainable energy supply in neighbourhoods. In our projects under the ODH initiative, our partners benefit from the diverse interdisciplinary expertise of the association’s members in the fields of real estate, mobility, IT and consulting.

Challenges:

  • Cross-sector management of energy systems at neighbourhood level (electricity, heating, e-mobility)
  • Resilience in the management of sustainable local energy systems
  • Cost reduction in installation and operation through the automation of the management of small amounts of energy
  • Taking into account and reflecting regulatory and technical complexity

  • Automated and self-learning energy management methods (data processing, forecasting, optimisation) and the development and integration of solutions
  • The use of AI for automation and scaling in the commissioning, initialisation and operation of energy systems
  • Implementation of business models and energy logistics in the liberalised energy market
  • Mapping and analysis of innovative business models, taking into account the energy logistics framework in the liberalised energy market
  • Integration with neighbourhood and smart city solutions
  • Development of data rooms to facilitate secure data exchange between the parties involved

The Bauhaus.MobilityLab Erfurt is creating a unique real-world laboratory in the heart of Germany, where sustainable and smart mobility, logistics and energy supply are developed, tested and brought to life.

 

Project ALEC Online

The aim of the ALEC project is to electrify all airport apron equipment in a cost-effective manner.
By using a battery-powered equipment carrier, innovative tool-changing concepts and ICT-based fleet energy management, the aim is to reduce the number of specialist vehicles in use and significantly cut noise and pollutant emissions.
